About Us

Otto Hopfinger Welding, now Otto Hopfinger & Sons, Inc, was founded in 1952 by Otto and Beatrice Hopfinger. the company was renamed to Otto Hopfinger & Son in 1955, as eldest son, Frederick, joined the family business; in 1962, a final name change, honoring the birth of their second son, Otto Jr.

Located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at 91st and Fon du lac, the business itself was born following ten years of dedicated service by Otto Sr., as a Power Plant engineer at A.O. Smith and American Motors. Initially a steel fabrication company, fiberglass manufacturing was introduced in 1965, when, quite by chance, a customer required the fabrication of fiberglass parts and wasn’t sure where to turn.

On a 1967 business trip, Otto Sr. spotted a home for sale just off rural Highway 60 in Hustisford, Wisconsin; a brief stop and look around the home, and six months later Otto and Beatrice moved the family and the business 50 miles west.

Five years later, Otto Hopfinger & Sons incorporated, and custom fiberglass products became their primary source of income. Working with the very best engineers from Allis Chalmers Corp., Otto Sr. developed fiberglass stator covers, baffles, and other components manufactured and installed, which are still in use today at Hydro-Electric dams throughout the United States.

In addition to the development of stator covers and baffles, Otto Sr. also developed many cutting and drilling machines, also in use today. In fact, Over ten million fiberglass washers have been produced since 1966, utilizing Otto’s tools and equipment, which continue to be purchased by Mastermold LLC, in Johnson Creek WI.

After forty-two years as co-founder and the backbone of Otto Hopfinger & Sons, Beatrice Hopfinger, passed away. Her absence forced significant changes in the day-to-day operations in which her daughters played an important role in; she is greatly missed. Ten years later, in the spring of 2004, Otto Sr. passed away – leaving a legacy of ingenuity, quality service, and a work ethic their customers had come to expect and appreciate. Otto Jr. and Frederick Hopfinger, as well as Otto Jr.’s son Michael, honor his legacy and their parent’s strong work ethic today, as they carry forward the family name and commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
